International Students

Please Note: International applicants admitted with "no financial aid interest" are ineligible to apply for financial aid for any year of undergraduate study.  There are no need-based or merit scholarships available for international transfer students.

2012-2013 Application Process for Returning International Students

If you are a returning international student who is already receiving financial assistance, you do not need to reapply for aid in the 2012-13 academic year.  Your annual family contribution was calculated at the time of your initial application and is valid until the time of graduation.  Your renewed financial assistance award letter will be sent to you during the first week of April so that you may use the information when completing your student visa application.  You do not need to submit any additional paperwork in order to receive your financial aid award.

Airfare for returning international students may be purchased individually or through the institution's travel service.  All international students are encouraged to purchase a round-trip ticket when making arrangements to return to Duke. Round-trip airfare typically offers greater cost savings to families than seperate one-way tickets, and students' financial aid budgets are based on the cost of round-trip fares.

International students in need of aid with domestic expenses such as winter clothing, computer purchases, or plane fare for parents at graduation should contact the International House and request an application for assistance. Limited funds may be available to assist qualified international students with these costs.

Additional Information International students with need-based financial aid are admitted to Duke with an expected contribution based upon the initial aid award calculation. However, if there have been significant changes in the financial situation or extenuating circumstances, please feel free to also email us a letter detailing these issues.
